I like to teach german both by the book and conversationally. I always open up with conversation in every session, and use the book to help guide the lesson.
I'm a German American who was born and raised in the US, but studied in both countries. I've studied German at the University, completed an intensive language course in Bamberg, and passed the final language examination for university acceptance. I've tutored people before ages ranging from 11-60, and of all different levels.

I think it works well to give shorter lessons to a small group, and then work individually with the students. I like to encourage them to help one another if they feel confident in the subject. A Little Bit About Me...

After completing a year as a teacher I realized that what I liked about teaching is the actual teaching part. Unfortunately for me, most of what was involved with being a teacher for me included tasks other than teaching, which was not what I had expected. I do very well with 1-on-1 tutoring and small group tutoring. The 11-15 age group is what I am especially interested in, but I have had experience with all ages from 4-25 years old. I have a lot of patience with students and passion for my subject (language), and what really makes me love teaching is being able to relate the subject to each individual in a personal way. A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school German exchange student and subsequent German major, I have more than textbook knowledge of the German language. My fluency comes from real-world interactions as well as attending a German high school. I taught courses at the University of Richmond for students of German wishing to practice their language skills, yet whose competency may not have been to the standard for a traditional literature class. Furthermore, I received an International Baccalaureate Diploma with high marks for my high school subjects (concentrations in Music History and Theory, German Language, English Literature, and European History). I think it's important to listen to what learners and students have to say. I approach teaching first as a learner; I learn what the student's main concerns are and what goals they have for themselves. Second, I teach and leave room for questions, concerns and confusion. This approach to teaching focuses on the major concerns of the student (or parent)rather than focus on an overarching theme like how to read or how to write. If the student's only concern is how to use a comma, then that will be the focus of the lesson rather than focusing entirely on all grammar.
