I love teaching -- standing in front of a class of students, feeling the pressure of their attention and responsibility for their education -- but I think I enjoy tutoring more. Even when I was teaching a class of twenty-five college freshmen, I tried to move things in that direction, giving my students incentives to come by during my office hours (hard to do with such busy students). In the classroom, I made good use of the SMART boards (interactive computer displays), although I also enjoyed just talking to the students: I made the classroom a place that was relaxed and open to free discussion, but one which also had a purpose (basically, to learn to write). A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with an Early Childhood/Elementary degree, I took the 3-6 year old Montessori training. I began teaching in a private Montessori school for 5 years. I then worked part time in various positions including substituting for 10 years while my daughters were in school. I was the Director of a Head Start daycare in the inner city which serviced many refugees. For the last 3 years I have taught 2nd grade in a typically hispanic school in the inner city.

Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.
