My comments on tutoring Reading : I teach reading (communication skills) as a College Professor and I have written articles, such as "An Introduction to Computer Literacy", for reading textbooks. I have helped many students to learn to read faster and with more comprehension. I am patient and understanding.
In my experience, the majority of students are highly motivated. This is, for me, the key to success. However, very often, students require assistance with a wide range of ‘remediation’ in many of life’s basic competencies: a skill set that includes such issues as time management, test taking, study habits, and, sometimes, acculturation. My teaching methodology follows these simple steps:
Step 1: Motivation
Step 2: Definition & Understanding of terms
Step 3: Explanation, exploration, discussion, debate
Step 4: Questions & Answers
Step 5: Practice: Time & Effort
Step 6: Demonstration (or proof)
