A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that in order to succeed in teaching and being an educator you must inspire those that you are teaching. A child who is excited to learn, will do much better. I feel a hands on approach is best, guiding the child to personal success.
As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. During that time I taught a variety of grade levels, and worked as a one-on-one aide.

As an Honors Student at Utica College, and as a past tutor, I feel very comfortable in the teaching setting. My long term goal is to enter the doctorate program at Syracuse University so that I may teach at the college level in the future. My BS in accounting with CPA concentration has given me the knowledge and skills that would allow me to be an excellent tutor in the specific area. In the last five years, I have tutored math, accounting, macro and micro economics. I am very much a hands-on teacher, given that a lot of what I teach current needs to be done in order to fully comprehend the concepts being put to use. I am also a firm believer in fully explaining an idea, and constantly take multiple approaches to explain a concept so that it is understood fully by the student. As a person who has worked with students of various learning abilities both in lab and in the classroom, I find that it is very important to take a multi-pronged approach to teaching as all students are capable of learning if you present the information in the correct fashion.

I hold both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in chemistry and over the past 14 years I have mentored, tutored, and instructed at the college level in chemistry and biology. I went into teaching because I enjoy working with children. I do not think of teaching as a job. It is very rewarding to me that I can help children understand complicated material. I make things simple and use things that they already know to build on to get them to understand the material. I like to teach the children pneumatic devices to help them remember the material1. When I instruct the students, I make sure to teach the different learning styles among the children and abilities.
