French is one of my top subjects! I have a MA in French and 14 years of teaching experience. I was a middle school and high school teacher, and most recently a college professor.

Since the year 2000, I have taught and tutored middle school, high school, college, and adults in the public school systems, the private sector and most recently at the University of Vermont. I have attended ACTFL (American Council on Teaching Foreign Language) conventions around the country to stay on top of the latest teaching technologies in order to provide optimal learning opportunities for my students. It is difficult to describe my teaching style because I try to adapt to the student. Students learn differently and therefore it is my belief that you must observe first and then you have to adapt to the student, especially in a one on one situation. Some students may learn better if you play a game with them, others if you read them a passage. I try to learn as much as I can about the student and adapt to their individual needs, especially for those with learning disabilities and special needs.

Certain material often from the onset might seem unreachable , however a good teacher will find several different ways to link information that initially might not seem related to help the student gain a better understanding of the material. I have a knack for creating analogies and mechanisms to help students remember things for exams, as well as strategies and ways of thinking that may be a little different than what was taught in class (but still gets them to the final result). I really want to help kids succeed in school and be in charge of their learning even after I am no longer their tutor. I like to inspire them to learn.
