As an undergraduate at NYU, I earned that extra spending money by tutoring Latin. As my customer base grew, I branched out into mathematics and general study skills. After college I went to Europe to earn an MA in Linguistics. Upon return, I immediately began a PhD program, and I used my previous experience in a number of side jobs teaching English as a second language. Over the past 4 years I have tutored several individuals in English focusing mostly on grammar and writing skills. I began my tutoring experience in the fall of 2009 with a program called Breakthrough Manchester. It serves underprivileged students in the area who do not have the resources to succeed. They ranged from grade 5 to 8. With Breakthrough I worked one-on-one with students as well as in a classroom setting in which I conducted my own lessons. I helped students with a variety of subjects such as science, math, social studies, geography, and even organizational skills.
