A Little Bit About Me...

I earned a B. A. in French at The U. of Tennessee & have begun work on a Masters in Linguistics at The U. of Memphis. I have tutored French since 2004, volunteered teaching English, & worked as an English language assistant in a high school in France. My experience has afforded me the opportunity of the responsibilities of preparing French high school students for the required national exam to graduate high school in France by organizing my own lessons in collaboration w/the English teaching staff, helping to prepare students for tests, to speak & write well in a foreign language (discussing many elements of phonetics, vocabulary & grammar), to successfully complete homework assignments, & counseling students on study skills.

The role of the teacher is to be a facilitator. The teacher facilitates the students in making personal decisions as well as participates in discussions that affect society. The teacher also helps build a foundation in subject matter to help develop a lifelong appreciation and understanding of the world through different disciplines.
In May of 2010, I successfully completed my fourth year of teaching. Each year has been different. The children of today learn in many different ways. There has been a change in learning styles over the course of time. Some children may learn through hands on activities and modeling, while others learn through lecture. Regardless of the learning style, I have learned that it is my job to make learning relevant and meaningful to students.

In tutoring my children, it has become apparent that one on one attention is absolutely necessary not only for children to learn, but also for the instructor to verify understanding and progress made by the student. I have a very relaxed teaching style when teaching my children at home during their homeschool, but they know if they don't do their work, they won't get far in life, and so far, of my eight children, there are four that are out of homeschool and have moved on to advanced education. The two oldest have their master's degrees from college and the third oldest is a senior in college on the dean's list and on the tennis team with a tennis scholarship. The fourth oldest is a freshman at the local community college with a high GPA so far. I am loving but firm in my teaching style, and show my love for learning and knowledge, which can be a way to make children love to learn as well.
