A Little Bit About Me...

I have made several practical--as well as scholarly--studies of learning styles that inform my teaching style. I am a facilitative teacher, one who listens attentively and watches closely to determine my students' learning style preferences and abilities in order to help my students build new skills upon those strengths already developed. My greatest joy is the look on my students' faces when they come to understand something that has resisted their comprehension before I began working with them.
I was trained and worked as a Master Tutor to pay my way through both my associate's and my bachelor's degrees' schooling, tutoring math subjects from algebra to biometrics and statistics, and English (academic) writing skills. As a life-long student, I aspire to a life of teaching. While an undergraduate at St. Olaf College, I developed strong communication and interpersonal skills as a writing center tutor and ESL mentor. With my years of being around and in an educational environment, I have picked up patterns of repetition and summary to reinforce ideas being conveyed. I, myself, learn best by doing. Through studying adult learning styles, I discovered that studies show utilizing all facets of learning - writing, audio, visual, and hands on - leads to the highest levels of retention.
