Education is So Important. Let Me Help

I have been a teacher for 40 years. I retired because family care-giving required my full attention. My studies prepared me to teach and my experience prepared me to meet the needs of each student. I am experienced in all areas of Language Arts; reading, writing, grammar and literature as well as elementary math, history, psychology and the arts. I can help students with the organizational and learning skills that are important in a student’s success.
I have always been a teacher. I taught swimming when I was 14 and French to fifth graders when I was in high school. I love working in education. I believe that all people, young and old, can learn and reach their potential. My teaching style is calm and patient. I have a good sense of humor and am creative. However, I have high expectations for my students and for myself. I find joy in learning and believe that teaching a ... read more

Experienced Tutor

I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one idea builds on the last. I will help your child learn the material in his/her own way. I consider myself to be patient, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable of the subject matter. I truly believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am very proud of the kind letters of thanks that I have received from parents of some of my students this year.

Understanding Western/Eastern Politics, Language, & Culture

Prior to serving in the United States Army, I was a successful entrepreneur in NJ. In 2003, I was recruited and after serving I returned to train troops at the Infantry Training Brigade at Fort Benning, GA. After returning home, I began working at a financial firm and became a licensed Investment Advisor and Asset Manager. I ran the Manasquan Edward Jones branch office until deciding to return to school. I studied Political Science at the University of Florida completing their International Relations program Cum Laude. Studies in International Relations focused on the international global economy, international agencies, national security, international political theory, and other aspects of public policy. I Will Meet You Where You Are!

I believe every student can learn! School was never meant to be a struggle, an effort yes, but not a struggle!
Hello! I have 15 years of teaching experience in the classroom and have been tutoring now since January of 2012. I have a true passion for teaching! I have taught in the parochial, private, and public schools. I taught at Assumption Catholic School from 1997-2004, English and Reading to 6th-12th grade ESE students at The Broach School from 2004-2008, and Intensive Reading to 11th and 12th graders at Andrew Jackson High School (public inner city urban in Duval County) from 2010-2011. I have also conducted FCAT, ACT, and SAT prep, as well as study skills in the summer months when students don't have schoolwork! While in the classroom my average student came up 3-4 grade levels in a year in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and language mechanics. My certi ... read more

ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.
Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.

I am a recent college graduate working full time. I have quite a lot of tutoring experience assisting other college students pass rigorous business courses. Speaking is one of my top subjects! I won the statewide 4H public speaking contest at a younger age than anyone else up until that time. I was the youngest member of the Florida House in 1978--1982. I have spent most of the last 20 years as a talk radio host.

I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.
I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.

My years in the Air Force and undergraduate school, as well as my graduate experience and working in the housing projects prepared me for the 17 years I worked in the county jail library in Atlanta. I believe my strongest efforts in education were working with the inmates at the Fulton County Jail. Many of the inmates there were working on their G.E.D. programs. I prefer working with students on a one on one basis, although I enjoyed my classroom time. Upon retiring from the Fulton County Jail Library, the Board of Commissioners proclaimed September 12 2000 as Myron Kirkes Day in recognition of my services to the jail population.
When I was discharged from the Air Force I enrolled at San Francisco City College. While attending City College I worked Part-time at the San Francisco Public Library. I was hired in the Business, Science and Documents area of the main ... read more
