My teaching style is based on the belief that children perform well academically when given an opportunity to learn in their own unique way. In particular, I have worked with students with receptive-language difficulties, ADHD, and oppositional behavior. In my teaching, I have tried to implement techniques that involve repetition, visual cues, and creativity to enhance students' academic performance. I believe each student has the potential to advance when given the appropriate tools. This past September I became a tutor in the Special Needs Department at Masconomet Regional Junior High School. I chose this department and school because I was once a student in the program. Currently, I work with 12 specific students that all have severe add and adhd. Each day we create activities that focus on their weaknesses in math and English. In addition to these two subject areas, I also attend their normally scheduled classes (Science and World Cultures). At the University of Massachusetts I exceled in Math and Science classes. I orginally planned on being a Math major but chenged course after taking an Environmental policy class. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.
As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.
