Shakespeare is one of my top subjects!

As a college English professor and high school English teacher with an MA in English, I have had the opportunity to help many young people improve their writing and critical thinking skills. I have also tutored students from middle school to college level English on many occasions. I can help students at all skill levels become better writers and thinkers.
My teaching style is best described as modern Socratic method. Questioning to elicit critical thinking is the essence of education. Many of my students have thanked me in later years for teaching the principles of clarity, simplicity, brevity and humanity in writing, as those principles haave led to job promotions and advanced degrees.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a college graduate, I decided to pursue graduate studies in the field of Historical Archaeology and History. A recipient of a B.S. in Anthropology/History and a minor in Biology from Radford University, this new focus is a continuation of my concentrations from my undergraduate career. I am fluent in US and World History as well as fundamental biological concepts. I graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.78) from Radford University and scored a perfect 6.0/6.0 in the writing section of the Graduate Record Exam (top 98% in the nation) in addition to a 78% score in the verbal section.

I tutored for 8 years before getting involved with the AVID program at the Middle and High School level. Concurrently, I worked with University Instructors teaching SAT Prep, Math and Reading Buddies Programs, and a summer school enrichment program. After obtaining my Provisional license with three endorsements (English, Journalism, and Speech Communications), I began my career as a full-time teacher. A Little Bit About Me...

In 2007, I graduated from Penn State with a plan of attending graduate school for Creative Writing. I was devastated when I received three rejection letters from schools I admired. Instead of letting that devastation break me down, I accepted a job as an SAT/ACT Preparation Teacher at a learning center. After several weeks of successful, inspiring interactions with high school students in one-on-one sessions, I knew that the circuitous path that led me to this job was truly my destiny: I was meant to be a teacher. From the moment I had that realization on, I took all the steps I needed to become a certified teacher with a Master's in the Art of Teaching.
