Shakespeare is one of my top subjects!

My teaching style is best described as modern Socratic method. Questioning to elicit critical thinking is the essence of education. Many of my students have thanked me in later years for teaching the principles of clarity, simplicity, brevity and humanity in writing, as those principles haave led to job promotions and advanced degrees.
As a college English professor and high school English teacher with an MA in English, I have had the opportunity to help many young people improve their writing and critical thinking skills. I have also tutored students from middle school to college level English on many occasions. I can help students at all skill levels become better writers and thinkers.

As a college graduate, I decided to pursue graduate studies in the field of Historical Archaeology and History. A recipient of a B.S. in Anthropology/History and a minor in Biology from Radford University, this new focus is a continuation of my concentrations from my undergraduate career. I am fluent in US and World History as well as fundamental biological concepts. I tutored for 8 years before getting involved with the AVID program at the Middle and High School level. Concurrently, I worked with University Instructors teaching SAT Prep, Math and Reading Buddies Programs, and a summer school enrichment program. After obtaining my Provisional license with three endorsements (English, Journalism, and Speech Communications), I began my career as a full-time teacher. A year ago, I had the honor of substituting as an Assistant Teacher with an amazing kindergarten teacher. I learned then that she maintains her respect and passion for her career by following this mantra: "I need to understand my students come to me in the morning having already experienced some kind of morning of their own at home. I don’t know what that morning was like, but I can tell when it’s been a bad one. I have to be able to engage each of them, no matter what their morning was, and welcome them to the safety of my classroom.
