I am currently an intervention specialist for students in grades 5-8, specializing in reading content and reading strategies. Last year, I taught students in the fifth grade, focusing in the scholastic areas of mathematics, reading, language arts, science and social studies.I was assisting students in an inclusion setting with some pull out resource room interventions. I am a very energetic and interactive teacher, moving around the classroom, challenging students with questions, providing many examples and anecdotes to illustrate teaching points. I always try to teach inductively--leading the student to discover the answer on their own, and I encourage them to express their own original thoughts. I use a multisensory approach to teaching, using audio-visual resources and the internet whenever possible. I really enjoy leading students to see things from "out of the box" perspectives, to find relationships between seemingly unrelated things, and to synthesize novel insights by doing so. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught 4 and 5th grade in the Texas School Systems for 24 years. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity. I really enjoyed working with these students to help them with their reading, math, and overall achievement. I am currently employed as a substitute teacher with the North Adams Community Schools on K-12 Levels. I also worked with the district in a specially funded program for a homework and tutoring afterschool program on 4th and Kindergarten levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not.
