As a mathematics major, I worked in the math lab all four years of my college experience. I would tutor others with their math and help students study for exams. I have also tutored in junior high settings and this past summer I tutored a young girl in 7th grade math. I have also tutored while in high school.
I love math. I find it fun, challenging, and very interesting. When I tutor students, I try to portray my excitement for the subject so they see that it is not intimidating and so they are more willing to work to solve a problem. My hight school math teacher encouraged me by her passion and I have taken that into how I tutor and help others.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with emphasis on Biological Sciences and Earth Sciences. I was a teacher in the public school system for 6 years. I taught Science from grade 7 through senior level, encompassing Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Physics. I have recently graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with my BS in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. I have had the opportunity to tutor students both one and one and in a group setting during this time. Also being an education student has given me the opportunity to work with students both in a middle school and high school setting and allowed me to gain teaching experience.

Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not.
