A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children have the capability to learn if someone is willing to be patient and work with them. I enjoy having fun with youth while learning and teaching those I work with the value of what they are learning. I work well with all age groups and am willing to put in the time necessary to ensure students can reach their full potential.
I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. If one word could describe my teaching style it would be the word flexible. Each student is unique and different and needs to be taught in a way appropriate for him or her. A student will find me easy to approach because of my patient, respectful, and easy going style. Because I'm easy to approach, this will welcome inquiry and interaction which is vital to the learning process. In addition, I'm a firm believer that most students learn best by doing and by applying what they have learned to their own lives. I will be getting my teaching certificate and degree in May 2010. I have worked with many students in grades 7-12 throughout my college experience. I am currently in my student teaching semester where I am teaching Advanced Math, Statistics, Topics in Mathematics, and three sections of Algebra 2. I have also been a Supplemental Instruction leader for Introduction to Statistics at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. I held two tutoring sessions a week to help students with the material and concepts. I have also tutored a high school student in Algebra 1 as a side job while I have been a student in college. I am a certified Level 1 tutor, I have passed the Praxis 1 and 2 exams including the Content Knowledge exam in Mathematics.
