In my own experience, the key to learning has been to find a "critical link:" that is, to figure out an angle that makes sense to my brain. It is one thing to be exposed to a subject, and another to understand, remember and easily employ what is learned. Everybody thinks differently, so the key is to discuss and explore the topic with a student until you see that they've experienced that "aha" moment. This is why tutoring is so important, in my opinion. This is the core of the approach I take to tutoring my peers, presenting ideas to professors, and to teaching younger students.

My teaching style focuses on teaching students how to find the big picture. If they understand what it is they are trying to do, then showing them how to get there becomes easier. Any student can learn math, and have the capability to understand numbers, this just comes harder for some and easier for others. In my past I have benefited greatly from some math teachers, and fallen behind in classes where I was not getting what the teacher was talking about. Throughout my education, I've found that broad academic interests have led me to pursue a wide range of subjects simultaneously. My undergraduate degree is a double major in music and comparative religion, and my other coursework ranged from astronomy to constitutional law.
