Everyone needs help now and again!

I find most children at young ages are visual learners, but I am easily adjustable to many teaching styles to fit the students needs.
I have worked with children ages 5 and up for a few years now. I have 3 siblings all 8 years or more younger than me, and have had lots of experience with children in elementary school. I have tutored middle school students after hours, and have worked with Special Needs children throughout my summers and within my school.

My comments on tutoring Literature : over 6 hrs college coursework completed in different genres of lit as well as a few minor lit awards and continuing self taught student of lit

I would describe my teaching style as dynamic, creative student-centered
I've either taught or tutored in some form or fashion for over 17yrs now. I've had ages 3yrs to 22yrs old covering all manner of subjects and hobbies. One of my most rewarding experience was with an 18 year old special needs 10th grader ready to drop out of school. We met 2-3x a week for 6mths. In that time he raised his GPA from 1.2 to 2.7. He completed his 10th grade year and went on to take and pass the G.E.D. the following year.

Experience Educator Unlocks Potential in Students

I spent over 20 years as a graphic designer for various colleges and universities. In that time I used my office as an educational opportunity for my student assistants, but I always had the desire to teach. In 2011 I returned to school for my Teacher Certification in English Language Arts and Reading grades 8-12. I have since then taught English I, II, III and IV, Recovery Reading for 9th and 10th graders, as well as Art and Yearbook. My experience has taught me that every child has a tremendous capacity to learn and excel, but not all know how to unlock that capacity. My job is to find the unique key that will help each child reach his or her potential.
My style of teaching is real-world understanding and application firmly based on theory. In other words, I teach how to accomplish each element, but why it is important to do so. In my instruction, I establish goals and cre ... read more

Brain-based, student-centered
I'm Ebony! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's in Cognitive Studies and Education, and earned a Master's degree with distinction in Curriculum and Instruction. I am a Cognitive Specialist/neuroeducator whose sole objective is bridging the divide between the student and the content, using methods based on the individual's learning style. As I think back to when I have achieved most success as a student, it was always because of a phenomenal educator who taught the content in ways that appealed to my learning style. I was immersed in the content, and I thrived because of it. I provide the same instructional strategies and experiences for my students, who vary from children with neurological differences such as Autism, Dyslexia, and other learning differences, to gifted students, to adults who never learned how to read or perform mathematics. I have previously taught dance lessons, choreographed a select number of routines, and have helped with Resume techniques for job scouting and placement. I have a passion to teach and am undoubtedly sure to be able to teach and tutor anyone. Regardless of the age or skill level, I will adjust the lesson based on your performance at hand. A Little Bit About Me...

I am convinced that for students to succeed in their education and in life they must have a firm foundation in reading and writing. Without mastering these basics it is nearly impossible for them to move on to a higher learning level. It is my desire to not just improve test scores, but to inculcate a passion for literature, reading and history. I believe that learning should be fun and that a teacher's enthusiasm and energy and excitement with the curriculum are critical to motivating students to learn. Additionally, as a teacher, I am committed to remaining current with any new, progressive learning strategies, teaching methods and resources, and the latest technologies, that would advance the learning experience.

I have learned most people achieve best in a fun and interactive environment. Learning games, role modeling, flash cards, art, and music are a few tools that are used. Another important component is trust and teamwork. Once students know you have their best interest at heart, trust is built. In a one-to-one situation, a teacher must emphasize teamwork.

A Little Bit About Me...

My whole life I have had a love of education. I look forward to sharing this love with students and teaching them that learning need not be something to be feared. I am a very adaptable teacher who can easily modify my teaching to work for a variety of learners. My style uses a constructivist approach in which all students are viewed as unique individuals and are expected to take an active role in their education. Most importantly to me, I embrace mistakes and help my students to understand that mistakes as simply part of the learning process and not a dead end. I truly believe that I can make a positive difference in these students' lives through tutoring and I look forward to the challenge.
Despite a demanding, accelerated academic schedule, during my three years at a competitive private college I voluntarily tutored underprivileged elementary students. In earning my BA in Soci ... read more
