A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching Spanish for 5 years in a variety of settings. I have taught high school Spanish and elementary Spanish, focusing on Spanish I and II. I have worked in private and public school settings. I also have experience teaching English at the Elementary level. I have been tutoring students in Spanish for 9 years now, and have worked with ages 3-22. I am comfortable tutoring individuals or groups, as well as children or even adult learners. I have lived in Spain for a year and spent a semester of that time teaching in Spanish schools.

My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I taught ESL to a S. Korean family - 2 children and their mother - for 1 year. This is a tricky skill that requires serious fine-tuning and constant revision!

I have a friendly teaching style; I use a lot of sense of humor. But, this takes a lot of hard work to achieve. The reason I am able to teach French grammar in a non-intimidating, almost very relaxing way, is because I had to master it. I have a way of getting closer to my students and to their difficulties by having the ability to relate almost every chapter I introduce to my personal experiences. And, I have anecdotes almost about any new topic I present. I am a story teller in that sense. Sometime my students beg me to tell them more anecdotes. A Little Bit About Me...

When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning.
