I feel like the best way to teach a subject is to break it down to the basics and build your way up, I feel you cant have a full understanding of something if you cant teach it yourself. I like to have the students actively participating in the lessons. They enjoy working out the lesson examples and problems on the media that is used so all of the class can see the successes and where we need more work and explanation. Hands on work is very valuable such as working with graphing calculators. The students enjoy manipulatives and technology where they can make their own discoveries. Math and the graphing calculator have become one in the same, so I use them constantly in the classroom.
I have been teaching for seven years-mostly math and some language arts. The math teaching included geometry, algebra 1, algebra 2, basic high school math and middle school math. Each child is different. I always try to notice and acknowledge what benefits each student, as I think this applies to all forms of teaching from academics to athletics. Getting on their level is what ultimately benefits the child from the get go and gains their interest. If I'm interested, then the child is interested.
