I taught English at the secondary level for 17 years (2 years - jr high, 15 years - high school) in Iowa (12 years), Texas (4 years), and Ohio (2 years). I taught all English curriculum courses over time, with a focus on composition, speech communication, American & British Literature, and World Literature. In addition I directed plays and coached students for speech contests. At Amherst College, we were encouraged to pursue a wide variety of subjects in addition to our major. I studied math for several years, some Biology, Latin and Greek. I had a semester of graduate school at Iowa in Classics. At Tulane, I studied advanced statistics as well as marketing. I had two years of Spanish at DMACC. I also studied Bosnian and German at DMPS Continuing Education. For all standardized tests, I always scored in the top 1% including the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GMAT. I have been tutoring students in Spanish, English Literature, Chemistry, Math and Government.
I really enjoy getting people of all ages to learn. My day job is with Easter Seals where I work with all ages and disabilities. I have tutored and mentored my friends and classmates in school. I feel comfortable guiding students and helping them with problem solving. I like to do research on problems i can not resolve and i try to solve them within a reasonable amount of time. There are different ways of going about solving a problem. There are chat rooms on chatzilla, google, netbeans.org and tutorials which guide one to the solution. I use the combination of all. I also carry my laptop around where ever possible. Work for me never ends. I am working 24/7. I take my programming skills and career very seriously and wouldn't jeopardize it in any circumstance. At the same time i am lenient, love diversity and a good joke. Tutoring is fun because you become a problem solver and a student all over again. My education required extensive fiction and research writing, as well as a vast exposure to dramatic, fiction and nonfiction literature.
