I am a certified teacher with over 17 years of teaching experience in Hampton Roads. I have had 100% SOL passing scores since 2008. With my IB training (International Baccalaureate) I have successfully engaged students into finding purpose in math. I attended Bethel High School and obtained my degree from Hampton University in 1996 with a Mathematics degree. Since then I have taught Middle School math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, College Algebra, GED, and have prepared students for their ACT, SAT, and ASVAB. As a NOAA Corps Officer, I helped teach new personnel many facets of our day-to-day operations, from instructing new officers on getting their Officer of the Deck qualifications to preparing new survey techs for their hydrographer-in-charge qualification, and new deck hands assigned to my watch how to drive the ship and steer accurate survey lines. At Embry-Riddle, I often tutored friends and classmates, since I had a more advanced background than most of my peers.
My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net".
