As a musician, I have taught two private students in Electric Bass, taught a master class for a high school level jazz combo, conducted a high school band for a piece I composed and arranged, and played gigs with talented musicians in the Dartmouth area. I was a hockey coach for beginners for 6 years where I honed my skills as an instructor that make me very adept at teaching. I know many practice techniques and exercises for all levels of musicians that are up to date and effective.

I love teaching students of all ages. It is very satisfying to see their eyes light up when they realize they got it. One method i use is to teach the the music that they love and apply the theory and technique to it, and gradually introduce them to more challenging works. When I taught sailing to young kids, I used to dress up like a pirate. I have lots of energy. I know I'm doing my job right when kids start laughing. When I taught to teenagers, I kept in mind my own experiences at that age.
