My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Have taught a few students in kindergarten and first grade learn their phonics. This is important as it is the first step to reading. I have also taught my own 5 year old how to read.

The first strategy that I use is building a relationship with the student by getting to know who they are, what there favorite things are, subjects, goals etc... This helps me discover what strategies I can use to help them learn. I also try to discover which learning method works best. Are they visual or auditory learner? Do they learn by having things taught step by step, or do they learn through visual or read aloud examples? I believe that every student has the ability to learn and to succeed; it is about finding the best strategy and providing that extra support. Being that advocate for students is the reason I went into school counseling.

Learning Can be Easy and Fun!
