My passion for education blossomed while volunteering as a tutor with Somali refugee children in Pittsburgh, PA during college. I worked with families in their homes to develop English reading, writing, and speaking skills. After graduating with a B.A. in History and Political Science I joined Teach For America, where I taught first grade for two years and substitute taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for one year. A major focus while teaching first grade was developing literacy skills and instilling a love and enthusiasm for reading and writing in my students. I am a student of history and believe that knowledge acquisition comes from interest and enthusiasm on the part of the learner. This interest comes from having an instructor who them selves is a learner. A partnership in the tasks being presented usually results in the student wanting to understand the information and making connections. To promote critical thinking I present the material in a global manner, allowing the learner to relate the information/skill to the real-world. I earned two bachelors degrees from LSU: one in Mathematics and one in Computer Sciences. But I would be more interested in tutoring FRENCH. I am a native FRENCH speaker and I've been in the country for over 20 years. I go back to France every summer to visit my family and would like to share my experience and teach the languague to students in the Spring, TX area.
