I currently hold a BA in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration. My teaching style is very much one of observation and tailoring lessons to fit the student best. I typically use one series of method books, but sometimes choose other repertoire outside of the curriculum in order to best teach the student in the area that they need. I have had students with Asperger's syndrome (a form of autism) and dyslexia.I have also taught all age groups, ranging from 4 years to 65 years. Whether I am chosen as a teacher by the student for academic reasons, to prepare for a talent show, or fulfill an entry on their bucket list, I strive to show true interest in their learning and provide the best explanations and most creative lessons I can. Since the age of six I have studied classical piano, recently finishing my piano studies at the bachelors degree level. I began tutoring in high school. I worked at a local day care where I tutored a special needs child. The experience was very rewarding and inspired me to continue tutoring while in college. I went to North Georgia College & State University, were I earned a BA in English, and an MA in Public Administration. As an undergraduate student, I tutored other students in English and Writing through the NGCSU Honors Program. I love teaching and am comfortable teaching students of all ages. I've learned from tutoring that each student learns in a different way. The great thing about one-on-one or small groups is that the teaching style can be adapted to what 'clicks' with the student. Some need a big-picture, overview explanation before delving into the details, others need a step-by-step methodology. I believe that every study has the potential to learn if they keep trying and don't become discouraged. Often times, discouragement is the biggest barrier in learning. As a teacher/tutor, I believe patience plays a key role in my success. I'm a natural optimist and hope my positive thinking spills over to the students.
