My experience as a teacher began when I was in the U.S. Navy, I was an Financial and Department Training instructor. After retiring from the Navy I went to work in the school system as a security assistant. After one year I resigned and went to Norfolk State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a major concentration in Learning Disabled and a minor in Emotionally Disturbed. Ten years later I earned a Master's Degree in Education from Cambridge College. I have been a Special Education Teacher for the past 16 years teaching in the Virginia Beach City Schools. I have a Highly Qualified Certification in Middle school math and English. Currently I teach High School Life Skills Math and Algebra.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very patient person. I tutored special needs students in the summer in a variety of subjects. I also taught piano lessons to several students of my own while attending school. While I was in college I was the chemistry lab assistant and lab tutor. I set-up and conducted the labs the teacher had planned, and I helped the students with their homework. As a summa cum luade graduate with a B.A in nursing, I strive for a high level of excellence in myself, and I really enjoy helping others reach their potential as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

While studying in college to become an elementary teacher I sought out many opportunities to practice my new skills and found them in all levels of academia from helping first graders learn to read to assisting my peers with their college papers. Since graduating, I have continued to find diverse ways to build upon my experience to become proficient in many areas. I have worked in settings in which children and adults know very little English as well as a classroom geared toward the gifted and talented students and finally overseas tutoring homeschooled children. As a gradute of the College of Creative Arts at West Virginia University, I was given the opportunity to learn and experience all aspects of the music education program.
