I started out as a Computer Instructor and enjoyed teaching computer classes but something was missing. I saw that my children was not getting the education in the school system that I desired for them. I had wonderful teachers in school and Math was my favorite subject. My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have completed Algebra I in high school and college. I received an extremely good grade in this class at both levels. I am very confident in my abilities to tutor this subject.

I am now a sophomore at Germanna Community College. I have taken Algebra, Biology, English, Contemporary Mathematics, and various psychology courses. I am continuing to take more math and science classes. As a high school student I took Algebra I and II, Biology, Duel Enrollment English, and various other courses. I have received high grades in the classes I have mentioned. I feel that the college courses are my strongest points, but high school English and Algebra are strong points for me as well. I have tutored various friends, mostly in Algebra. I have a college GPA of 3.8 and I am in an honor society. My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have specific teaching experience with Algebra I. I believe Algebra I is the foundational course for all other mathematics. It is even used in Geometry. Because I was certified to teach Algebra I in the state of Virginia, I could have probably called myself an expert. Others (students and teachers)have said that I make math easy to understand. Still, I believe there is always more to learn, so I will just call myself "experienced," instead. There are many people who know math, and are incredibly smart, but have no (or very limited) ability to help others learn what they know. I'm not one of those. My strength is facilitating the learning of others. I am flexible and can come at topics different ways, because I only teach what I thoroughly understand.

I have real-world experience in the United States Army--both enlisted and officer. I have real-world experience in corporate America. I completed roughly 300 college credits, so I know how to succeed in school. I taught math for a year-and-a-half in public schools. As part of my teaching, I have spent countless hours tutoring after school.
I prefer to be a facilitator. I believe in the "give a man a fish and you feed him for one day, teach the man how to fish and you feed for a lifetime." I can give you what you need to know; but I prefer to help you learn how to solve problems yourself. By giving you the tools to use what you know to solve problems,you can have the ability to figure out solutions to problems that haven't been seen before.
