I have a Bachelor's Degree in History, and a Master's Degree in English and Writing, both from Northern Michigan University. I have extensive experience in business communications and public speaking. I have taught English and Writing at the college level, and have also used my knowledge and experience to help elementary students succeed. Believing that people learn best from what they consider most relevant to their lives, my teaching style is one which encourages learners to seek a higher level of knowledge. In addition to reading textbooks, the students must learn by doing. I encourage life long learning by promoting a sense of what it takes to successfully retrieve information when one needs it later. Basic memorization generally fails us all in time. Modifying or adapting information in a manner to help the learner reach success is crucial. Students may learn more from auditory, visual, or hands on methods. I always encourage learners to use what feels natural to them.
