I have a Bachelors in English from Dominican University. I began A Plus Master Tutoring Center over 4 years ago and was teaching in my home. Now we have expanded to a center in Oak Park and we tutor all ages, from Pre-K to adults. Our subjects range from phonics to algebra. Our teaching styles vary from a 3:1 ratio, which would include up to three students and one tutor, or a 1:1 ratio which would be a private session with a student and a tutor. Physics is one of my top subjects! I earned my M.S. in Physics from Depaul University in 2012 and have been a full time instructor of physics, engineering and astronomy at Moraine Valley Community College ever since. While at Depaul I worked as a private tutor and had many satisfied students who saw a great increase in their grades. I am currently working on my M.S. in Science Education.

I like to make my approach to tutoring specific to each student. Most students simply need help with problem solving, and so I like to spend my hour or two a week with them working through homework problems (or problems which are similar) where I can determine their approach and try to enhance and improve upon it. Other students need me to re-explain everything they went over in class, and it becomes more of a Q&A session.
I earned my B.S. in physics from Loyola University in 2010 and my M.S. in physics from Depaul University in 2012. The Achievement Centers, our after school tutorial/diagnostic clinic and before and after school care, is available for all ages and subjects. Tutoring and diagnostic testing is available after school, evenings (Monday – Friday) and Saturday mornings. The clinic is available year-round. A Little Bit About Me...

I have two bachelor degrees, one in computer science, the other in mathematics with a type 09 cert (6-12). I belong to Mensa and the NCTM, and have excellent English and decent Spanish speaking and writing skills. I have taught and tutored in mathematics and computer science for quite awhile, and I earned a 95% on my PSAT and a 32 on my ACT.
Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.

In my experience I have discovered that it is better for the student, whether he or she is at elementary or university level, to come up to his or her own conclusions and answers. My style of teaching does not involve doing the work for the student, rather I like to say that I provide the necessary information and aid to point the student in the right direction. This in some cases can take a lot of time and patience, but in the end one learns better when he or she does things himself instead of someone doing it for him.
