Elementary Tutor

I was an early childhood classroom teach for 1 1/2 years. Recently,like focusing on individual students I learned that working in a whole group classroom is not for me. Throw out my high school year I was in a program called “Learn and Serve”. This program consisted of going to the closest elementary school for an hour a day and be a teachers aid. Therefor, I help any student who was having difficulties. In some cases would even help teach a lesson if the only adult in the room was a sub teacher.

Make Learning Fun!!

I teach writing / grammar students based on their level of understanding vocabulary. Learning how to figure out the meaning of vocabulary words is key in successful writing. Word origin and grammar usuage is how a student builds their writing skills! My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I have a Bachelors in Applied Arts and Sciences from Texas State University and worked as an interpreter for a Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in Texas for 14 years and much of that time was in the elementary school setting. My job description as an interpreter included being a teacher's aid and a tutor. I interpreted all subjects and so I am very familiar working with students at this age. Because I was in the general educational classrooms I not only tutored the Deaf students, I also tutored the hearing students who needed help.

I love to see students "Get it!" when I tutor. I am patient, tenacious and I don't give up until a student understands! One of my areas of expertise is creating visual materials for students who are visual learners. I will draw, use manipulatives and anything else it takes to explain a concept. I worked for 14 years as an interpreter/tutor for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and tutor to hearing students as well.
