Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! In Home or Library only

I truly enjoy working one on one with students. I get to know each student and family so that I can work to meet the individual needs of each student. Then I address those individual needs through personalized lesson plans to teach to the strengths of the whole child. With older students this can also be accomplished ONLINE in selected subjects. I am compassionate, kind, and patient. Especially for the younger students I understand that games and fun activities are important to maintain interest as well as short spans of time on each activity. Even for older students we will move from one activity to another to decrease any boredom.

A Little Bit About Me...

Due to my special education training, I am able to determine a student's learning style and teach to their strength. I also like to educate students about the different learning styles and make them aware of their learning strengths.
Columbus Public Schools 1987-1997: During this time period, I taught at the high school, middle school, and elementary level. I then left formal education to stay home with my children. While at home raising my daughters, I did home tutoring from 1989-2006. I then returned to teaching by doing home instruction for Bloom-Carroll (2003-2004)and Fairfield Union (2005). A Little Bit About Me...

I have always felt strongly drawn to education, particularly in the field of literacy. I grew up as a child who loved to read, and I love to pass that on to others. After receiving my degree in English Literature, I became a teacher's aide at a small Montessori school in Springfield, Ohio. I taught my students reading for concepts and spelling in a small group setting, never more than four at a time. Occasionally, I gave one on one sessions, and had book clubs twice weekly for the students. Although I moved on from teaching in the Montessori setting, I would like to pursue tutoring and working with students one on one.

I am in my sixth year of teaching. I am one of nine third grade teachers at Miami Trace Elementary school for Miami Trace Local Schools. Previously, I taught at Wayne Elementary. I taught first grade for one year and third grade for the two years. I attended Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. During my time there I had classroom experiences in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and a kindergarten/first grade room in Mansfield, as well as Ashland.
