My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I have excelled in math since a very early age. I also love to and am very good at working with children. I am patient, and understand how to explain concepts so they can better relate to the math even though it may seem arbitrary.

Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.
I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : Have experience with incremental learning having used Saxon Math to teach my four children from ages K- Algebra II. After that point they were able to take college level math at a local community college. I would be comfortable tutoring K-Algebra I.

I have home schooled four children ( two of whom were foreign speaking adopted from Russian) through 12th grade. All four are now in college. Have a graduate degree in library science, the conservation of research materials and fine arts. Can tutor in elementary math through Algebra I, reading and phonics, drawing and painting and grammar and writing.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a teacher has nurtured within me a deep respect for children as thinkers, and ultimately "real" people. In my position at Spence's Farm, I was responsible for a group of 5-8 year olds. I enjoyed being with kids, who inspired me to observe and innovate, two talents that I had to perfect in order to develop fun and effective lesson plans and field trips. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future.
