During my Junior and Senior year of college, I tutored at a Children's Home in Lubbock, TX, 3 nights a week. I have also taught Sunday School classes off and on for the past 15 years for ages 1 year to 14 years old. I volunteer on a regular basis at my son's school, and have worked with the students primarily with Math and English.
I enjoy working with, and teaching, kids, especially in Math. I teach with creative tactics, when necessary, to drive home a concept. I am patient with kids (hey, I have 3 of my own!), and find it rewarding when I can make a difference.

A Little Bit About Me...

The most important thing to remember when teaching a child new concepts is patience. All children learn skills in different ways. Some catch on quickly, others need more time. Even the way in which you demonstrate how a problem is solved can make a difference. I usually try several methods for solving problems rather than insist that they learn the traditional methods only. The little bit of extra time spent giving them the optional techniques could make a world of difference in their educational success.
As a parent of two school-aged children I have had the oppurtunity to learn about the newest teaching methods employed by teachers at this time. We often work together on math and science. I like diversity when teaching and incorporating the use of technology to help the diverse learner. The teaching style I like to relate to is that of Maria Montessori, because I like to set up scenarios and encourage the child to problem solve and be creative at their own pace.
