I have spent the last seven years as lecturer in Music Theory at Southeastern Louisisana University. I have tutored in Music Theory while at this post at back through undergraduate school. I have taught private lessons in piano by both Suzuki and Traditional methods for over 20 years. I believe my experience in writing a thesis and articles in my field would qualify me to tutor in academic writing.

I tutored in the Migrant program When our school moved I moved to a 6th Grade class where I taught self-contained, team taught, etc. When we moved, once again, to a new school I with Mrs. Deborah Ellzey as a team-teacher. I think the most useful tutor emphasizes critical thinking. I have noticed that many students focus on memorization instead of really understanding the processes behind science, math, and foreign languages. I try to focus on how and why things are, rather than just the fact that they are. I believe that this approach provides students with a deep understanding of the material and an ability to problem-solve on their own. They can then develop better comprehension, and tend to be more interested in learning.
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in marine biology in 2002 and then worked as a research biologist for two and a half years before returning to school to pursue my master’s degree.
