While pursuing my Engineering degree at Roger Williams University, I noticed that there were not too many students from low income families attending college. That is why I joined Bridge to Success Program on January 2001. BTS was a program, sponsored by Roger Williams University at the time, which focused in assisting and encouraging students from low income families as well as minorities. I served as a mentor for five years in the program. I helped a number of students go into college and helped them improved their grades in math and science. Every child has his/her own learning style. I think it is important to first determine how each child best learns – either visual, auditory, or tactile. I can then tailor my instruction to the needs of each student. In general, I believe that people learn best by ‘doing’.
