I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Elementary Education and BA in Special Education-MR, LD, ED, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of children with special needs. In addition, I have learned extensive reading skills due to the extended course work I have taken. During the past 8 years I have tutored students in reading skills and comprehension strategies. I love working with children. I believe that all child can learn. Some may need different way or even different materials to find academic success. I think it is important for students to develop self- esteem and see themselves succeeding, and that is what I work on first including staying on task. I have always used Madeline Hunters guidelines for successful lesson plans, which includes using manipulatives to assist students in understanding concepts. My focus is on educational strategies such as rules of phonics, Spalding, a variety of reading and math programs to assist students in remembering what they are learning so that the student can complete their assignments and use in their future education. After earning a bachelor's degreee in Psychology and receiving my Elementary Education certification at Gonzaga University in 2007, I worked at Mario Umana Middle School Academy teaching environmental education in Boston. I currently work as a teacher's assistant in a Supported Learning Center program for students with Asperger’s Syndrome. I work one-on-one with high school students in the program, assisting them with work in math, science, English and social studies.
