A Little Bit About Me...

I have had intensive study at Case Western Reserve, mostly in chemistry (general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and physical chemistry), but I know many other subjects and I am proficient in them. I have good understanding of biology, microbiology, biochemistry and physiology. I'm pretty strong in math as well, going all the way up to calculus. I help teach my little siblings who are homeschooled and have experience teaching others who are outside of my family. I hold a BS in Mathematics with an emphasis on teaching from Purdue university, as well as a minor in Physics. I have been certified to teach Math by both the State of Indiana, and the State of Ohio. During college I tutored students in College Algebra, first year Calculus and first year Physics. As a professional, I have taught courses in Algebra, Computer Basics, and have tutored in all levels of High School Mathematics.

My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups.
