My teaching style is based on the belief that children perform well academically when given an opportunity to learn in their own unique way. In particular, I have worked with students with receptive-language difficulties, ADHD, and oppositional behavior. In my teaching, I have tried to implement techniques that involve repetition, visual cues, and creativity to enhance students' academic performance. I believe each student has the potential to advance when given the appropriate tools. For example, I try to use lively stories and cue cards to enhance phonemic awareness of the long and short vowel sounds and consonant sounds as well as basic sight words. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me.
