My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : As a part of a creative writing team in undergraduate school, I helped to brainstorm ways students can find the creative element for any paper. Creativity is a passion, and helping students explore topics creatively is fun and enjoyable.

College Student - Eager to Gain Experience!

I have an incredible passion for teaching. I am currently in the process of getting my Bachelors in Secondary Education with a focus in English. I have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language and thoroughly enjoy teaching others composition, spelling, creative writing, reading, vocabulary, etc. I do not have much experience yet in a classroom setting but have volunteered at a middle school while getting my Associates degree. I helped a teacher at a middle school to teach students that were having difficulty in various subjects.
I am a hands on teacher, probably because I am a hands on learner. I find it difficult to learn when an instructor is solely lecturing. I believe that constant practice and hands on lessons are the most effective ways of learning.

Your Child's Best Interest.

I want your child to be able to feel comfortable to ask questions. A lot of students are scared to look "less than" in front of their peers if they ask questions. English and Literature are subjects meant to be questioned and not just read. I believe that your child has every capability to learn and my job is to help them turn on the light bulb to help them see that reading and writing aren't as hard as they seem to be.
I have student taught since my senior year in high school as a credit. I have tutored family members and coworkers. I am currently a third year student at Glendale Community College (GCC) and my major is Secondary Education in English. I student taught Senior English last semester and this experience has proved that this is the place that I want to be. I plan on going to ASU in the Fall of 2019 to continue my education.

My superior at Yavapai College who monitored my classes in order to write his evaluation, remarked once that "...you have the patience of an angel." I don't know whether this is entirely correct since I haven't had a personal encounter with such a heavenly body, but I consider myself to be a kind and patient instructor who also loves for her students to learn. Since each child/adult learns in a different way, I believe that it is important to pay attention to individual learning styles. I am creative, resourceful, and constructive. I have worked as a writing tutor with a diversity of college students, ages 16-70, at Yavapai College, Prescott Campus, for the past ten years and continue to do so. I also worked at Yavapai College testing ESL students for several years during those years. In 1995, I taught English to elementary and middle school children in PR China for three months. Finally, I taught French at the Canterbury School in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1987-88.

As I am a very auditory/visual learner, I tend to to lean towards both auditory and visual techniques. I question the students as to what he or she intended to say in their writing, what is the intent of the paper--will this persuade the reader, inform the reader, compare/contrast ideas-- and see if the writer is in fact accomplishing this goal through effect word choices, sound reasoning, specific examples, and other components of writing. The hope is to edit the document for clarity geared towards the reader of the document and to polish the writing skills of the student.

My teaching style is quite organized, but also empathetic. I allow for students to use their various aptitudes and abilities to learn. For example, when a student normally presents a report to the class, that student reads from his notes. I had one student who was musically inclined and played her guitar to make her presentation. She used her musical skills quite effectively.
I am currently certified in the state of Arizona in the following subjects: English, Latin and general sciences. I teach two courses of Latin at Glendale Community College, Glendale, Arizona.
