I obtained my interpreting/transliterating degree from Columbus State Community a college in 1999, established my own interpreting agency one year later. I have been a professional interpreter for 15 years and I am nationally certified. I have interpreted in every situation imaginable and then some! I love what I do and I enjoy passing my knowledge on to practicum students from local colleges.
Practice practice practice! Asl is not a language you can learn from a book. It is concept based and requires a lot of time.

I am still a student in high school. I am a junior and take all senior classes. My favorite subject is math. I work really good with younger children and take my time to help them learn what they struggle in. When I was younger I had never wanted to get help for math and I took it upon myself to learn it and now its my strongest subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have degrees in English and English Education, which gives me a strong backround in which to tutor. I tutored undergrads at Ohio State in Freshman English and a high school student in Reading at Ohio University. I taught English as a Second Language as volunteer for two years through my Church. As a professional in the private sector, I wrote for and edited the company newsletter.
Though I am not teaching now I volunteer for Youth for Christ, teaching students in the Bible, personal ethics and making right life choices. A life goal has been to educate and enhance the lives of teenagers. I want students to move ahead, and use encouragement as a means to do this. I always try to establish a personal relationship with the student, as people do not care about what you know until they know that you care.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent college graduate, I feel that I have received the formal training necessary to become a teacher. I have obtained a BS in Early Childhood Education. Over the past two years I have also spent time tutoring elementary school children in the subject of reading, and also spent about 3 months working one on one with various students in a nearby school district.
I believe that all children should receive the extra help that they need. Often time in the classroom, a teacher does not have the time to give the support of the needs of each student in the classroom. Teachers and tutors should try their best to make sure they focus on individual needs of the students so that they can help them succeed.

Having the chance to attend one of the largest universities in the world has truly allowed me to experience opportunties to influence young minds. The difference in my experiences and those of others is that the experiences I come across require much more dedication and devotion simply because it is not related to my field of study. During my undergraduate work, I was employed as a literacy tutor in a federal program for at-risk students K through 6th grade. I was responsible for assessing strengths and weaknesses, creating a curriculum plan and implementing that plan during weekly sessions. I also communicated with the students' parents and teachers regularly to determine appropriate goals. Currently, I am employed as a Speech-Language Pathologist in a public school setting.
