I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example. My goal has always been to give children the tools and self-confidence to think and explore for themselves. I model self-confidence and creative problem solving. I graduated with a Bachelor's in English from Troy University Dothan in December 2009. Since I opted for a Bachelor's in English rather than a Bachelor's in Secondary English Education, I took more writing and literature classes. In all of my English Literature classes, I had numerous writing assignments that helped me learn how to write. I also took writing and grammar classes which helped improve my writing skills tremendously. I tutored when I was in Jr. High School. The student I tutored was learning how to read. I enjoyed the challenge of teaching him to read. I have also taught Sunday School at various age levels.
