I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example. My goal has always been to give children the tools and self-confidence to think and explore for themselves. I model self-confidence and creative problem solving. I love working with children. I have taught Sunday School classes at various age levels. I believe that each child is different and learns in his/her own way on his/her own time-table; therefore, I work with each child differently depending on their needs. I try to teach in a way that the child can understand and grasp the concepts of grammar, writing, and reading.
I graduated with a Bachelor's in English from Troy University Dothan in December 2009. Since I opted for a Bachelor's in English rather than a Bachelor's in Secondary English Education, I took more writing and literature classes. A Little Bit About Me...

I own my own science consulting firm and like to dedicate a certain percentage of my time to education and public outreach projects including teaching, mentoring, and tutoring. I have taught high school and college students on and off since 1986 and have had several students go on to VERY successful careers, perhaps one of the best ways to evaluate ones ability as a teacher. My most recent success (2006-07) was a 7th grade C and B student who had straight A's after only two months of working together and finished 7th grade with straight A's. Her confidence level increased dramatically (as noted by her family and friends) and she now has set her sights on Harvard as a real possibility someday.
