Piano is one of my top subjects! I have played the piano for over two decades. I have extensive training and my primary musical instrument while earning my music degree was the piano. I have played for various competitions, recitals, weddings, anniversaries, funerals and other occasions. I taught the piano at various musical studios, churches, music stores and at student's homes.

I use a combination of both online games and Websites and hands-on manipulatives. First, I like for the student to take multiple intelligence tests and then I know how best to help the student. The information I gain from the analysis is extremely informative. It tells me where the students' strengths lie such as some students are musically inclined, some are visual learners, auditory learners, some are mathematicians and various other styles. Then, the style that they learn through the best is how I would teach the student; this is based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence. Second, meeting the standards are essential in today's education system. The four C's of the 21st century is also necessary for students' to learn. I teach students in an informal manner. My individual students call me Phyllis. I welcome questions, and if I do not have an immediate answer, we will look up the answer together. I am a positive, patient teacher. I use creativity to help students learn. Often I will introduce an idea, and then have students explore how to use the idea. Then the student and I evaluate the result together. If I give a student practice examples to reinforce the ideas we have covered, then I am prompt in returning those materials, and will not move on until the student is satisfied with his own proficiency. Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. My teaching style is to engage the student on a personal level through cheerful conversation and sharing of interests, then to assess learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Children perform well when expectations are complimentary to them, and when they are given the tools and nurture to accomplish their dreams.
