Learning Can be Fun!

I have tutored children in group and individual piano lessons. I have tutored them in math and social studies. I have spent over 20 years in business in the accounting field and prepared countless financial statements and income tax returns. I am skilled in all things mathematical. I also speak Spanish through over 9 years of instruction.
I like to allow the student to read the material once and clarity any areas that need more explanation. Then I will allow them to answer questions from the material read and help them where needed to choose the correct answer and understand the reason for the answers. I like to reward a certain level of correct answers with points that can be redeemed for interesting small prizes. I also consider myself very patient and interested in the student having a strong foundation for future learning.

My comments on tutoring Piano : Beginning / intermediate piano, all styles, reading music and/or sight-reading skills

I have three years experience teaching in the best language schools in the world, including Berlitz International, CNA Language Schools, Brazil, and TAG IDIOMA, Brazil. I have experience as a private tutor, but also as a classroom teacher and an instructor trainer. I am fully fluent in English, Portuguese, Italian, and Swedish. ALSO... I am musically fluent in many instruments, I teach and undertand music theory, but I also can teach sight-reading and improvisational styles. I am particularly good with beginning students.
I am supportive, creative, gracious, understanding, but also clear with expectations and goals. I am well-versed in the most effective and enjoyable strategies for learning and retaining.

My teaching style comes from much of who I am as a person. I am easy going and laid back. I enjoy having fun, but not at the cost of flagrant misbehavior. I believe children can and do make mistakes. It takes the proper coach to guide them in a direction of better choice making. As far as learning, I believe in direct and indirect methods. I am a firm believer in Gardner's Intelligences, which basically states people have different learning styles. I enjoy discovering those styles with my students.
First and foremost, I am passionate about education. I believe education is key to success for any person, young or old, as well as society as a whole. Before starting into my bachelor degree in Social Science Education at UCF, which I will finish in approx. one year, I worked at a Tutor Time in Phoenix, AZ. I worked with babies to 12 yr olds. I also volunteered at a live-in rehab center ... read more

I believe that each child is different and must be taught with that concept in mind. Teaching is motivating each child to want to learn and providing an atmosphere where that desire can develop. Every child has special gifts and as a teacher it is my desire to see those gifts grow and blossom. Everyone has a purpose and teachers are part of defining a child's purpose. I love children and I love teaching. Children are the light and future of our world. AS a teacher, I consider it an honor and privelege to have the opportunity in molding their lives through recognizing and developing their indvidual gifts and talents

A Little Bit About Me...

I always enjoy helping and having a positive impact on someone's life. I worked as a Tutor Counselor before for the EOF Program in NJ. The objective of the graduate EOF program is to increase participation in graduate & professional study of NJ residents from backgrounds of historical poverty. I was a joy watching them mature and learn in such a small period of time and I was glad I had made a difference in their lives.

I am currently a sophomore student at Flagler College and local musician of the Saint Augustine/Jacksonville, and Brevard area. I have had experience playing piano for 8 years, as well as guitar for 5. I often play and record self-compositions and covers at local venues within these areas, and for the past two years have been self-employed giving music instruction with a core emphasis on music theory, note-reading, and composition. My lessons are ideal for anyone first learning either guitar and/or piano, or for anyone who wishes to become more intimately acquainted with the instruments, and finding their own personal music style.

I absolutely love helping children obtain their goals education-wise. I understand that every child is unique, and have unique learning styles; some children learn best visually, others are auditory learners. I am patient, understanding, and will cater to the needs of each individual child I tutor.
I was a member of the Honors program at Valencia Community College, and graduated with my Associates (AA) as a Pre-Major in Elementary Education. I was hired as a Substitute Teacher for Orange County Public Schools in 2007, where I substituted for absent teachers and paraprofessionals in the Orange County Public Schools district. As a Substitute teacher, I taught children individually, as well as in group settings with varying exceptionalities. I also have taught children piano lessons, and french horn lessons in after-school programs.

Enabling a child to realize his full self-worth is the reward a teacher gets when he is able to work individually with a student and show that child that he can learn whatever he needs to learn. By recognizing the child’s interests and valuing him as a person, I can reach him and together we can work toward the goal of understanding. It is very important that the student understands the “how” and “why” of the subject rather than just memorizing facts. I feel that I have the secrets to unlocking that for students.
Since earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University, I taught English, Drama and Journalism in Texas and in New Jersey for several years, after which I spent another 10 years tutoring students from kindergarten through high school in all subjects when they were required to be home from school due to illness or other situations. Throughout my entire undergraduate education, I tutored other students in multiple areas of mathematics, which was highly recommended as a math major, but I continued to tutored after I changed my major to finance one semester before graduation. I began teaching algebra level 1 and 2 to high schoolers before taking a job in finance. I currently work for that same company and have obtained my MBA in the meantime. I have been tutoring intermittently since giving up teaching and have always loved helping others find a love of math.
I believe that too many students find math challenging because of the way they are taught. Too many teachers have made it not fun and frustrating and are unwilling to explain the "whys", which can make a big difference to a child. This may be due to lack of understanding on the teacher's part, but I believe strongly that a solid education, especially i ... read more

I love to teach. There is nothing more fulfilling than to see a student succeed who was previously having difficulties in a subject. I believe that patience is the key. I believe that you need to also listen to what the student has to say if they have anything to say at all, then observe while they work to see what works and doesn’t. Each student is different and should be taught as such, which is how I tutor. I also like to get to know the student so that they feel comfortable enough to speak freely especially if they do not understand something.

I like to incorporate real world experience as well as hands on teaching. My style of teaching depends on the class I have. I incorporate whole group and small group using many visuals. I also do read and respond with my classroom. For my auditory learners I use cassette tapes and reread instructions and stories. These are just some of the basic things I do in my classroom.
My background knowledge of speech and language has helped me as an educator in my classroom. I can spot out students having difficulty immediatley and give them the extra help they need to master a skill. I can efficiently change my teaching style to accommodate all learning styles. By teaching kindergarten, third grade, and speech & language it has given me a varying range of teaching experiences.
