I have over 12 years of experience in the elementary education field. While my passion is reading instruction, I am certified and have taught in all elementary subjects: math, science and social studies.I have spent the last 8 years working as a reading specialist at a K-5 elementary school and the past three summers as a reading tutor with Lynchburg College's Summer Reading Clinic. My experiences have spanned all ages and types of children's learning abilities. From a church setting, to a public school to a driver training car. As a substitute teacher, I worked on developing a good rapport with the students. And was always willing to assist them in working towards understanding the concepts before them. I am very patient and understanding with the children, because a stressful environment is not conducive to learning. I believe that a child should be able to learn while they are having fun and that positive reinforcement can go a long way towards helping develop good study skills.

I will be graduating in May 2011 with a Masters of Arts in Teaching for Special Education and will then obtain a teaching license for Special Education, K-12. During my Masters program I have taught students in large groups and small groups, performed assessments on students, and planned daily lesson plans and curriculum for students in a variety of subjects. Through my years of higher education I have gained a love for students, children, and education for everyone.
