What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different. I personally prefer one on one interaction for tutoring . I would first determine areas which need to strengthened. ThenI would emphasize these areas in the instruction process.Then I would assign work (exercises,problems,questions). These would then be reviewed to determine the students grasp of the material.These areas would be worked on until the student had an adequate grasp of the material. Accounting is a subject that is learned by doing.Certainally a student has to read the material,but actual hands on doing is where real learning and retention take place.Most of my tutoring hs been volunteering , but generally with minimal instruction those I have assisted have increased there scores 15% to 20%.

My favorite part of tutoring is working with children who are frustrated with a subject and being able to break it down and teach it to them in a way that they can relate to. Also, the self-confidence the student gets that comes from being prepared for a test is very important.
My freshman year at Clemson I tutored 7th graders in math. I was also a tutor in high school for a k-6 school for children with low-income families. It has always been a passion of mine to help others with grasping a subject.
