A Little Bit About Me...

Education, teaching in particular, gives individuals the opportunity to give back what they have received. It is communication on a broader level than just simply putting forth information to whomever chooses to accept it. I started my career in education before I set foot on a college campus, through a peer-tutoring program in my high school. This experience allowed me to work with severely disabled peers learning functional skills for independence. Since then I have worked as an aide in emotional/behavior and multiple-disability middle school classrooms, as well as LD-resource, ED self contained and SC occupational diploma program. My teaching style varies by person, because not everyone learns the same way. I adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the person.
I have been tutoring in various math, elementary, and Spanish areas for 13 years. I have tutored students from elementary school age to adults. I have also tutored students all over the US and in other coutries. I have listed all the areas that I am comfortable tutoring. I am willing to teach in a library, in the student's home, on-line, or in another area that is agreed upon by both myself and the parent. I am open to group sessions, this would require me booking a meeting room in a library, or another location. On-line is preferred if possible to reduce travel time(s), this would also allow me to assist more students in a more efficient way.

I've been teaching informally most of my adult life. I earned a 193 out of a possible 200 on a Praxis test that covered content knowledge of my subject area (English literature), and 179 in a comprehensive middle school language arts test, and am enrolled in Capella University, where I'm currently pursuing a master's of science degree in K-12 studies. Teaching has been my passion for a long time. My biggest strengths are not only considerable knowledge in my subject area, but life experience: I know what kids are up against if they do not maximize their educational chances in a timely manner.
