My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I have student teaching experience in the elementary school setting.

My teaching style incorporates all learning styles, because I am a firm believer that we all learn differently. I am a very patient and passionate teacher. Being excited about the subject is key to being a successful teacher. However, I expect my students to be motivated and to give 100 percent effort to their studies.
I studied Elementary Education during my undergraduate. During this time, I was a student teacher on several different occasions. I assisted the home room teacher and independently planned and taught lessons to the students. I have worked with grades 1 to 5 as a student teacher. I am currently in my first year teaching in Indianapolis. I am a licensed Biology teacher although I have a strong math and science background. I would love to have an opportunity to work with students on a one-on-one basis.
I believe that students need guidance and structure in order to reach their highest potential. In the classroom, instruction can only be differentiated so much. Individual tutoring would allow me the chance to really meet a student at their level and understand their learning style.

While attending Danville Area Community College from 2003 to 2005, I tutored middle school and high school students through a program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). This included individual and group tutoring sessions in all subjects. I mostly tutored in mathematics as this is my specialty. After transferring to Eastern Illinois University, I began my pursuit of a teaching certificate in secondary education with my concentration in mathematics. While at EIU, I had many experiences teaching in a classroom setting. I also occasionally tutored high school and college students in both physics and math. After graduating with my Bachelors degree in mathematics, I tutored for a year at the college level.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring, because I find that helping students learn, and perhaps come to appreciate something they find difficult, is a learning process for me as well. It is very rewarding to watch someone learn and understand something and to watch them become more independent in their studying. Also, I believe a tutor should be a good listener, so that they can better understand what each individual student needs.
