I received my BA degree in Ecology/ Evolution from the University of Utah. Many years later after serving in the military and starting a family, I went back to school to receive a teaching certificate in the state of NC, after moving to Arkansas with my family, I converted it to an Arkansas license. In 2009, I returned to school again to fulfill a dream of completing a Master's degree. I have been working as a substitute teacher for 5 years and I have been tutoring for 2 years. First and foremost, I understand that no two children learn the same. I believe many children struggle in a learning environment simply because they are not comfortable with it. I excel at personal communication, and make it my first goal to find out how the student is going to learn the best. Whether it requires dancing, music, pictures, whatever it takes, once a student is comfortable they are far more likely to absorb information. This holds true for any age. I want the student to understand that they are capable of learning anything, they just may not have had the right opportunity to yet. That said, I like to make exercises fun, but I know when and when not to be stern. I have been involved in a lot of activities and feel the best way to teach is to relate to the student. As a tutor, I have worked with many different types of students and I found a way to relate the information to something they were interested in. I believe all students are capable of learning the material; it just has to be presented in a way they understand. I received my BS degree in 2007 in pre-medicine. I majored in pre-professional zoology and I have a minor in biochemistry. I also worked at the Talent Development Center as a tutor for biology, botany, chemistry and biochemistry. I have a strong background in all science courses and maintained a 3.87 GPA throughout college.

I studied many different theories of learning while in psychology and fundamentally understand what it means to be a teacher. My teaching style allows the student to learn the material as independently as possible and improve their critical thinking skills, by asking the right type of questions and finding the student's best learning style. I am very patient and am willing to put forth the effort to make sure the student improves during our session. I consider myself a facilitator, not an authoritarian. I ascribe to the principles set forth by Malcolm Knowels and Benjamin Bloom. I rely on the strength and motivation of the student. I hesitate to call myself "teacher." I think I serve better as a guide which, hopefully, leads his client not just to a more enlightend place, but also to the place the client wants to be, or had in mind in the first place. I started teaching Music in 1984. I taught part-time, temporary while pursuing education goals and working as a professional musician.
