K-12 and College Tutor

I have the take a learning styles test in our very first meeting to see what style of learner the are. I then concentrate on teaching them by what learning style they are.
I have tutored K-12 students, as well as college students. I tutor math for K-12 students and business courses and math for college students. I received my BA degree in Ecology/ Evolution from the University of Utah. Many years later after serving in the military and starting a family, I went back to school to receive a teaching certificate in the state of NC, after moving to Arkansas with my family, I converted it to an Arkansas license. In 2009, I returned to school again to fulfill a dream of completing a Master's degree. I have been working as a substitute teacher for 5 years and I have been tutoring for 2 years. A Little Bit About Me...

First and foremost, I understand that no two children learn the same. I believe many children struggle in a learning environment simply because they are not comfortable with it. I excel at personal communication, and make it my first goal to find out how the student is going to learn the best. Whether it requires dancing, music, pictures, whatever it takes, once a student is comfortable they are far more likely to absorb information. This holds true for any age. I want the student to understand that they are capable of learning anything, they just may not have had the right opportunity to yet. That said, I like to make exercises fun, but I know when and when not to be stern. I also worked at the Talent Development Center as a tutor for biology, botany, chemistry and biochemistry. I have a strong background in all science courses and maintained a 3.87 GPA throughout college.

I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a double major in Psychology and Philosophy. I also received a minor in Interdisciplinary studies through the Honor's College at UCA. I wrote several different research papers in Psychology, excelled in critical thinking and symbolic logic courses in philosophy, and also completed an undergraduate thesis through the Honor's college. I started teaching Music in 1984. I taught part-time, temporary while pursuing education goals and working as a professional musician. In 1998 I became an adult educator, and in the following nine years I taught GED, Workforce, Computer and ESL. I learned to speak Spanish from some of my ESL students.
